| Introduction The Leeds Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust, is one of several NHS organisations which provide mental health and learning disability services in West Yorkshire. We were set up in 1993 as Leeds Community and Mental
Health Services Teaching NHS Trust. Between April and June 2001, the community
health services we managed were transferred to the five Primary Care Trusts
(PCTs) Our main purpose is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the people of Leeds and to provide them with effective and modern mental health and learning disability services. We provide services to over 725,000 people within the metropolitan boundaries of Leeds. In 2001-2003 we had a budget of £93.7 million. We employ over 2,000 staff, of which three out of four provide care direct to patients. Around 1,500 people use our service every day. We deliver those services from more than 70 sites, including The Becklin Centre, The Newsam Centre and The Mount (see Page 2). The trust is divided into eight areas. Either an executive director or an associate director who reports to the chief executive manages each area. The eight areas are as follows. Learning disability
